The Alabama Air National Guard, the 117th Air Refueling Wing in Birmingham, is looking for a small business to repair cracks in the apron pavement at the Alert Pad. The work includes:

  • Repairing approximately 300 linear feet of concrete cracking at the Alert Pad apron pavement.
  • Removing and replacing 5,000 linear feet of existing apron expansion joint.
  • Cleaning the cracks using a handheld cutting saw, then routing, blowing out with compressed air, and vacuuming to remove debris, vegetation, and loose material.
  • Filling cracks with a PCC compatible, FAA approved sealant suitable for aircraft pavement loading and fuel resistant environments.
  • Tooling or leveling sealant to achieve a smooth, flush finish with adjacent pavement.
  • Allowing proper curing time before reopening the area to aircraft traffic.
  • Saw cutting and removing existing joint filler, sealant, and any deteriorated concrete along joint edges.
  • Cleaning and preparing joint surfaces to ensure proper adhesion.
  • Installing new joint filler material meeting FAA specifications.
  • Applying a fuel resistant, FAA approved joint sealant.
  • Ensuring joint width, depth, and profile meet design requirements.
  • Finishing joints flush with surrounding pavement and verifying proper movement capability.
